First Kiss

by Dieu

In the darkness

you held my hand.

We sat side by side

as our bodies

spoke their secrets.

Thunder rumbled

shaking

sky and earth

while we were as

silent as photographs.

My heart trembled.

I imagined it bloomed

like a flower –

shaking

petals

softly

descending.

Then

you whispered my name

twice,

and we both exhaled at once,

releasing our breaths into

each other;

clinging

as dew clings to skin

on wet summer

mornings.
