My weird obsession with religious art
I am not a religious person, but whenever I see a painting of the Virgin Mary, I feel incredibly at peace. She always seems so calm and unalterable in her love – a mother’s love for her child which is the purest form of love there is.
I’m reminded of my favorite Shakespeare sonnet (at least a part of it) :
Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds
Or bends with the remover to remove.
Oh no, it is an ever fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken.
