Sleeping Beauty

by Dieu

(An old poem I deleted a while back but have decided to repost…)

At night
in bed,
you are sleeping
while I lie awake.
I hear your jaw click
as you grind your teeth
– tension manifest for reasons
unknown to me.

But to hear you breath,
making noises in your sleep,
a laugh escaping from you
as you dream in a far place
away from me
and your body close.

It is like we are
standing on opposite shores,
your hand holding mine
at rest – a bridge.

And then suddenly you
awake
resurrected, gifting me with a kiss
– a sleeping beauty in reverse.

And I think to myself,
my, how I love sleeping with you.
